Cast the Novel

1st Week Scorpion Project Chalenge:

This is our first challenge for the scorpion project and we have decided to cast the novel of the first 8 major charecters in this book. We realize that their are other characters in the book and we may come back here and cast them later but for now we are just casting these 8 characters. Each blogger has done two characters of the 8 and provided evidence as to why we picked this certain person or picture to represent them.

Cole L character casting

Tom: 

- (Page 44) Tom has bristly red hair and freckles

- (Whole book) Tom acts like a jerk

I choose this boy for the character Tom because he looks like a trouble maker and has red hair like tom. In the book it says that tom acts perfect for his parents and other adults, but is a total jerk around other kids. Even when he looks like he's being nice by holding the door for a adult he will always do something little like shut the door on their heel and then apologize for it and make it seem like no big deal. No one really likes Tom, only Maria and maybe Felicia actually like him. El Patron openly states to Toms mother that he doesn't like the boy on page 104. This is why I picked this person as the character Tom in The House Of The Scorpion. 

Matt:

- Clone of El Patron (page 57) EL Patron grew up in mexico

- Made Maria kiss him (page 110)

- Matt feels like he wants to pound Tom within an inch of his life (page 121)

- When Matt finds out he is hated as a clone he wants to become so smart that everyone will treat him with respect.

I picked this boy for the character Matt in the house of the scorpion because in the book El Patron was from mexico before he created the country opium. Matt is El Patrons clone so he should look like El patron as a boy. The book did not really give evidence as to Matt's appearance so I based my cast for the character based on his actions and El Patrons childhood storey's. Matt really is loved by Celia but grew up with no parents and had a lonely childhood as he spent hours alone in the house of the poppy fields, so based on this I picture him as a lonely innocent boy. The boy in the picture above looks about the age of 9 or 10 which is around the age that Matt would be in the book right now. He looks innocent but maybe dangerous cause in the book Matt has some violent feelings towards certain people and has done some things that have hurt people weather it is physically or mentally. This is why I chose this person to play Matt in the House Of The Scorpion.

Mitchell character casting

Eduardo
- Science geek (page 1)
- Lab coat (page 1)
- Hispanic name so Hispanic person?


I chose this for my character because he has a little bit of a tan, he has a lab coat on just like Eduardo, the only thing is he doesn’t fully look like a science geek. We chose Eduardo because he is basically the one who sets up the story for this book. He is not the most important character but you would need him to help set up.

El Patron
- Extremely thin (Page 56)
- White hair neatly combed beside a face that was wrinkly (Page 56)
- Dressing gown (Page 56)


I chose Hector from Breaking Bad as El Patron because he looks like the boss for someone. He has the white hair on the side of his hair and he looks pretty skinny, he is also old as it said in page 56. He has that kind of shirt that I picture El Patron wearing. We chose El Patron as one of the characters for our cast because he is a very important character in this story. And without him Matt would not exist and the story would be shot.

I Picked just a random UFC fighter to play Tam Lin because any UFC fighter would be a good actor for the roll because both Tam Lin and any UFC fighter are dumb, bulky men. The UFC fighter, Ken Shamrock would be perfect for the role of Tam Lin because he is a strong, numb minded man who would look like a body guard.

S.T.E.A.L
I picked the actor Siobhan Finneran to play Rosa because she plays the role of nuns in movies. she looks like a normal aged woman and looks just like Rosa looks like in my mind. I think she would be best suited because she has all the characteristics of Rosa and would be a good character.

Celia:

Long dark hair

This person reminds me of Celia because she has long dark hair with a light tan. Celia is Matt’s care giver, in the begging of the  book. Then when Matt is asked to stay at the big house Celia leaves the little house and goes to the big house to live with Matt. This person looks like she can be active and do many things. 












Maria:

Short

Long dark hair

Pigtails

Light tan

This girl is a lot like Maria, she is small, has pigtails and dark hair. She is not that tanned however compared to Maria’ description. She looks like a girl with a big hart because Maria excepts everyone in her life. When Matt tells her that Tom did something bad, she does not accept what Matt says and says that tom would not do such a thing.
