Coles #6 blog post. I am going to be doing a book review for my #6 blog post.
The house of the scorpion is a book that many people would like and many people would dislike. myself? I might put myself somewhere in between the two. The house of the scorpion had parts that were very bad and very good. For example the ending, the ending was very creative and I found it interesting but it was very abrupt kinda like everyone dies and Matt becomes leader THE END. The book was a very easy read and I think I would recommend it for anyone over the age of ten. This book showed me an extreme case of a planned economy and i would not want to be in matts position or even live where this novel took place.
In my opinion Nancy Farmer left a lot unsaid in the novel the house of the scorpion and i think that she should right a sequel to sum things up. The setting of this novel interested me greatly and I think that if their was to be a drug country in between Mexico and The States that was allowed to be made the governments would be very stupid indeed. People would just grow or make it anyway and sell it to customers in both the States and Mexico. Then the Government would have the same problem again and most likely get abolished by drug free citizens. This book opened up eyes for some people and I like that.
Thanks for your thoughts on the novel Cole. I thought that you would have been overwhelming with LOVE since you read this book so fast! I agree that there were some parts that were amazing while others were disappointing. Why do you think that Farmer chose to develop the plot and end the book the way she did? Remember that your critique should reflect the depth to which we explored the novel. Think: theme, characterization, conflict, plot...
