Cole's 3rd Blog Post on Celia's Story (Chapter 1-24)
Within chapter 14 in the novel the house of the scorpion, Celia tells the story of how she came to be at the big house in Opium. She tells of wanting to travel from a small town in mexico (Which happened to be the same town El Patron grew up in) to the United States. She hired a "coyote" (A person who will take you from one country to the other Illegally), But something went wrong and she was caught by El Patron in his youth. El Patron recognized her accent and decided not to turn her into a eejit but to let her live as a housemaid and nurture a clone. (How nice of him) Why would Celia do this? What was wrong with her life in Mexico? Farmer brought up all of these questions and I hope that she chooses to answer them later on in the book. I think that maybe Celia was trying to run away from her parents or family members in mexico as she never talks about her family at all and revolts at the idea of being a mother. Even In these days they have Coyotes who will take you over the border. Kind of like how some people will try and get through a recreation centre without paying. Following close behind the heels of others to look like they have a membership. I found a pretty interesting article on illegal immigrants heres the link and I hope you enjoy:

How could you make connections between Celia's story and the article? Do you think that she would prefer to live in a place like Illinois, rather than Opium? Does El Patron treat her better or worse than the US government treats their own illegal immigrants?
